When Sir Matt Busby took over as manager of Manchester United, the club had no financial resources and a bombed-out ground. Within three years he had brought the first of many trophies, built on a philosophy of entertaining football that would make United one of the world's most famous clubs. His finest achievement is generally considered to be his role in rebuilding the team after the Munich air crash which destroyed the "Busby Babes" , the talented young group of players which bears his name to this day.
