  • 1956 – scores twice on debut for Manchester United; wins League Championship medal
  • 1958 – survives Munich air crash; scores on England debut against Scotland
  • 1963 – Manchester United win FA Cup final against Leicester
  • 1965 – collects League Championship medal
  • 1966 – inspires England to World Cup victory, defeating West Germany 4-2 in the final; voted European Footballer of the Year
  • 1967 – wins second League Championship with Manchester United
  • 1968 – scores twice in European Cup final defeat of Benfica at Wembley
  • 1973 – leaves Manchester United to manage Preston North End
  • 1974 – comes out of retirement to play again
  • 1975 – leaves Preston
  • 1984 – joins Manchester United board
  • 1994 – knighted in Birthday Honours List

Sir Bobby Charlton is remembered for his accurate passing, his ability to beat defenders with a bodyswerve, and his trademark powerful shooting. Charlton survived the horror of the Munich air crash to become an Icon for both club and country, winning the European Cup with Manchester United and the World Cup with England, both at Wembley. His scoring record of 49 goals in 106 games for England remains unbeaten, and he is active today as an ambassador for Manchester United and English football.
